The petite, bi-coloured blooms of Zinnia Jazzy Mix come in a range of colours incorporating shades of red and creamy-yellow. This variety isn't particularly tall, but once pinched the plants throw up stems that are long enough for arranging. Blooming from late summer through to the first frosts, zinnias are a valuable cut-and-come-again late-season annual for autumn colour in the vase and in the garden.
Sow under cover four weeks before your last frost date; sow outside after the risk of frost has passed. Sowing temp 21-24°C; germination between 5-10 days in optimum conditions. Pinch to encourage branching.
Cut when the flower is fully open. Use the 'wiggle test' method to check stem maturity; hold the stem about half way down the length and give it a wiggle - if the flower head remains stiff atop the stem it's ready to cut. Do not cut if the head is a bit floppy as the stem will not stay hydrated. Place immediately into water; zinnias are known to be 'dirty stems' which foul water rapidly, so change the water frequently to prolong vase life.
Vase life: 7-10 days
