Ranunculus is a lovely variety to grow for the spring garden and it is an excellent cool-season cut flower crop. The Amandine varieties of ranunculus produce superior, reliably double blooms on long, strong stems, and are one of the best cultivars for professional cut-flower production.
The plants grow from bulbs which are commonly called claws; these are supplied to growers in early autumn. The claws can be planted in succession through autumn, winter and early spring for flower harvests through spring to early summer. Plants grown under cover through the winter months will produce higher quality blooms in spring with much longer stem length than plants grown outside. Plants grown outside may need protection from the worst of the winter weather.
Pre-sprout corms before planting out; make sure to plant your claws spikey points down! Protect from rodents who love to eat the bulbs. Planting density: 16-25 plants/m2.
Cutting stage: When the bud casing has opened and the bloom is starting to open; the flower head should feel soft and give like a marshmallow when gently squeezed.
Conditioning: Straight into cool water, no special conditioning required. Wrap to keep stems upright if necessary.
Vase life: 10-14 days
Top tip: Consistent watering is required for good stem length and flower production when the plants are growing.
Pre-order delivery information:
Dispatch of Ranunculus Butterfly® orders will commence in September. Our French ranunculus (Amandine, Friandine and Pauline varieties) and anemones will be available from October. If you place a combined order for the Butterfly and French varieties your entire order will be held and dispatched when we can ship your order complete at the beginning of October. From October onwards, please allow up to 7 days for dispatch of your order. This will not affect the optimum time to start your corms which is from mid-October onwards.
PLEASE NOTE: All pre-orders are taken subject to availability at the time of harvest of the bulbs. In the event of harvest failure, or failure of supply by the bulb producers for any reason, we will offer a substitution if possible; otherwise purchasers will receive a refund for any items on their order that we are not able to fulfil.
Please note that due to Brexit regulations we are only able to ship seeds and bulbs to England, Scotland and Wales. Our apologies to customers in Northern Ireland and the rest of the world.
