Common name: Lupin

Untreated seed; packed by seed count. Available in two size packs:

Gardener packet 45 seeds; Grower packet 225 seeds.

First-year flowering perennial.

The Russell's Hybrids Band of Nobles series are excellent cut flowers and garden plants. The deep pinky-red tones of The Pages bring a touch of depth to early summer arrangements.

Sow Feb-Apr for flowers later the same year; sow Aug-Sept to overwinter for flowers the following year. Sowing temp 18-21°C. Germination in 14-21 days in optimum conditions. Some advice suggests to soak the seed for 24 hours or to scarify it, but we have always sown the seed as normal without these processes and germination has been excellent! Plant out in a sunny position in moisture-retentive but free-draining soil. Lupin aphid can be a real problem as the plants develop flowering stems in the spring.

Cut from as soon as colour can be seen on the lower buds or when 30% of the lower blooms are open; vase life declines once the flowers have been pollinated. Bunch to keep stems upright once cut; place straight into water and move into a cool place for conditioning.

Vase life: 7 days
