Hardy perennial.
This is a first-year flowering perennial variety so you will be able to harvest blooms in the summer from a late winter/early spring sowing. Clivedon Beauty is a shade of soft, pale blue with flowers held in a loose spike up the stem; it has a more natural feel than some of the more densely packed spikes of other delphinium cultivars.
Sow Feb-May or Aug-Sep. Pre-chill the seed in damp vermiculite (in an airtight container in the fridge) for 2-3 weeks prior to sowing as this will aid germination which should take 7-14 days in optimum conditions. Sowing temp: 15-18°C. Sow the pre-chilled seed on the surface of the compost, but cover to exclude light until you see the seed start to germinate.
Grow on until large enough to plant out; plant in a sunny position in fertile, moisture retentive but free-draining soil. Plants may benefit from light shade in sunnier locations. Protect from slugs.
Cut when 25-30% of the blooms begin to open. Flowers decline quickly after pollination. Place immediately into water and move to a cool place; no special conditioning required.
Vase life: 7-9 days
