Hardy perennial.
Another excellent example of Japanese variety breeding, the Morpho series of Delpinium was developed specifically for the professional cut flower market. Flowers bloom on 70cm stems, and produce consistently in cooler conditions.
This is a perennial variety which produces blooms in an open raceme rather than a spike; each individual flower faces upwards and they do not have spurs like a typical delphinium flower. If you're looking for the palest blue accent colour for those early summer arrangements, Chiffon Blue may just be the perfect choice for you!
Sow in Feb-May or Aug-Sep. Pre-chill the seed in damp vermiculite (in an airtight container in the fridge) for 2-3 weeks prior to sowing as this will aid germination which should take 7-14 days in optimum conditions. Sowing temp: 15-18°C. Sow the pre-chilled seed on the surface of the compost, but cover to exclude light until you see the seed start to germinate.
Grow on until large enough to plant out; plant in a sunny position in fertile, moisture retentive but free-draining soil. Plants may benefit from light shade in sunnier locations. Protect from slugs.
Cut when 30-50% of the blooms begin to open. Flowers decline quickly after pollination. Place immediately into water and move to a cool place; no special conditioning required.
Vase life: 10 days
