Half hardy annual. DTM 90-110.

China asters bloom through late summer and autumn and are the perfect seasonal accompaniment to dahlias, grasses and other autumn flowers. There is a wide range of colour and bloom size in Callistephus varieties.

The Nina Plus series was bred specifically for cut flower production and is another fantastic introduction from the Japanese seed company Takii. Each plant produces sprays of tiny semi-double flowers; this white variety is one of our favourites for autumn production. 

Sow under cover four weeks before your last frost date; sow outside after the risk of frost has passed. Sowing temp 21-24°C; germination between 5-10 days in optimum conditions. Annual asters are susceptible to Aster Yellows, so cover with insect netting to protect the plants from leaf hoppers which spread the disease; the Nina Plus series is more resistant to Fusarium wilt than other aster varieties.

Cut when 25-50% of the blooms in the spray are open and place straight into water; no special conditioning required.
